Bottom-paint
season!
We’re all happy to
see the end of a seemingly long winter that had most of us cooped-up,
bound-up, iced-up and generally ‘froze-up’. Those fortunate enough to
escape the long arm and grip of this seasonal condition were, no doubt, glad
to be away from it all.
By press time, it’s
expected that most of our boating members have had at least a passing glance
at the spring chores that lie ahead. The sounds of sanders, pressure
washers and grinders mixed with the smell of anti-fouling paint will soon
fill the boat-yards as launch day draws nearer. As we see the marina
fingers begin to re-appear in their normal operating positions, there is a
certain sense of urgency attached to the task of readying our vessels. Bring
on the warm weather and the gentle breezes!
AGM:
The Annual General
Meeting of the RWNSYC will be held May 27th, 7:00 p.m. at the
club house. There are a number of items to be discussed, so it is very
important that we have as many members attend as possible. There will be a
full agenda posted on the club web page prior to the meeting and we
encourage members to submit any items you feel are critical for discussion.
Remember – this is your club and its future is directly related to
your input, support and participation.
Racing:
The Nova Scotia
Yachting Association has completed the ratings for boats into the
Performance Handicap Racing Fleet (PHRF) system. Two forms of race
measurement are used in this system, time-on-distance and time-on-time, and
the NSYA has adopted a time-on-time standard for the province known as
PHRFNS. For those vessels competing in races other than our own, the
published PHRF rating will be used. Since the older ASPN system is
time-on-time, there is no difference in the results calculated in both, so
for the time being, we will continue to use ASPN. For more information,
visit the NSYA web page at
www.nsya.ns.ca.
Oh, our first race will be May 31st!
